Will using Oxyclean in my hoover steam vac mess it up?

Most Oxy products tell you to use COLD water. I think you are defeating your purpose using this. Bite the bullet and go get the manufacturer's product made for your situation. There are different strengths and applications for the various dirt/stains you may have.
