I want to leave the US for good, anyone ever thought of this or have tips?

Let me preface this by saying that I don't hate this country and don't want to see harm come to it, so please no bs comments. So: I have a really well paying job and am incredibly accomplished in many aspects of my life. Yet, I've become severely disillusioned with this country, as everyone here seem to be in a rat race, going no where fast. People here only seem to care about money, buying things, constantly filling their schedules with pointless activities, and really it all seems incredibly stupid. I really feel like this was not the point of life. Therefore, I'm thinking of just selling off all my things, taking out my savings, 401k, etc., bidding farewell to family and friends and taking off to S.America or SE Asia or a remote island with a small population, basically as far away from modern civilization as possible. I've traveled to those locales and people seem so much more relaxed and more focused on living life. Has anyone thought of this before, any tips?
